ABOUT SUZY SMITH
In the American Pop-realist tradition of Mel Ramos and Tom Wesselmann, Suzy Smith portrays idealized nudes as objects of cultural aspiration. The artist juxtaposes young models against a still-life background derived from iconic Pop images. With tongue-in-cheek humor, Smith manages to honor her Pop predecessors while maintaining an unmistakable sense of irony.
Smith lives and works in Albuquerque, NM, and she has been exhibiting since the mid-1990s. Her paintings and works on paper have been reproduced in numerous publications and she is earning a growing amount of attention in the United States. Her public collections include the Kaiser Foundation Art Collection and the Howard Tullman Collection. BIO
